Printing a document just to sign it, scanning it again and sending it back takes a quarter of an hour and wastes paper. Sign PDF lets you put your signature on a PDF in a minute, on your phone or computer: an offer letter, a rental agreement, a school consent form or a delivery receipt.

First make your signature. You can draw it with your finger, a stylus or the mouse; type your name and have it written in a handwriting-style font; or upload a photo of your signature on white paper. With an uploaded photo, the white paper is made transparent, so only the ink lands on the page and it looks natural on any background. Your signature is cropped to the ink, so the box around it is tight and easy to place.

Then place it. Go to the right page with the previous and next buttons, and tap where the signature should go. Drag it to move it and drag the corner to make it bigger or smaller. On a keyboard, the arrow keys move a selected signature, plus and minus change its size, and Delete removes it. You can place the same signature on as many pages as you need, for example on every page of a contract that asks for initials at the bottom.

If you sign documents often, switch on Remember it on this device. The signature is then kept in your own browser, never on a server, and is ready next time. Switch it off and it is forgotten. The PDF itself is also handled only in your browser; nothing is uploaded, and the signed copy is saved as a new file ending in -signed.

What this tool adds is a picture of your signature, the same thing a scanned signature gives you. Many offices, landlords and employers accept that. It is not a certified digital signature with a cryptographic certificate, which some government and legal processes require, so check what is needed when it matters. A PDF locked with a password must be unlocked before you can sign it.
